Hello Taco Tunes Rep,

I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner SR5 (double cab short bed). My goal is to upgrade the factory stereo to get better sound. I would greatly appreciate your experience as well as your potential upgrade recommendations to improve my stereo system.

First off… I will need to purchase your speaker kits for the front and rear doors so that the following can be installed… An acquaintance recommended I consider installing a “Planet Audio” AC1600.4 1600 W, 4 Channel Amplifier. Along with this amp, he also suggested a new set of JBL MS-62C 6-1/2” 2-way MS-Series car audio component speakers for the front doors and JBL P963 Car Audio Stereo speakers which are 6”x9” (3-Way 330W Coaxial Speakers) for the rear doors. Lastly, to retain the factory behind the seat storage, someone else recommended a 10” shallow mount, Pioneer Subwoofer. The installation will take place upon my return to Mexico with the component system from my vacations.

To review suggested components…

  1. “Planet Audio” AC1600.4 1600 W, 4 Channel Amplifier (mounted under passenger seat)

This amp MIGHT not fit under your seat I would give it a test run.

  1. JBL MS-62C 6-1/2” 2-way MS-Series (front doors)

JBL MS-62C Component Speakers Manual

You can install 6×9 or 6.5 in the front doors. You will want to order 5.8″ speakers, you can order from here, please be sure to spec 5.8 for front doors. The rear will depend on which speakers you choose for back doors.

For the tweeters you will want to order:

Spec 1.783″ custom size in the notes.

JBL P963 6”x9” 3-Way Coaxial Speakers (rear doors)

Wont fit without some big modification . .

  1. 10” Shallow Mount Pioneer Sub (to retain factory storage)

How are you planning to power the subwoofer? Do you have a box in mind?

If you have not yet purchased the speakers . . .(we carry the Image Dynamics  CTX65CS speakers VERY popular) you can install some ID CTX65 coaxial in rear doors . . you might want to consider the Alpine PDX5 channel amp. It will deliver 75 watts to each speaker and 300 watts to your sub and will fit very well under the seat.

If you would be so kind as to provide the installation kit order numbers for the front and rear mounted speakers… And, your comments on the above system or alternate suggestions for the installation/upgrade of my stereo. I value your experience and would sincerely appreciate your comments and/or suggestions on what I should consider to improve.

PS – If you will respond as soon as is realistically possible… That would be great! I leave for the US this coming weekend and will only be there for a week. I need to order soon in order for all the necessary components to be shipped and arrive on time for my return. Also, please confirm receipt…

Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback…

Have a great and productive day!
